RALEIGH, N.C. — Ahead of the rain, the heat returns on Saturday.

WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell said Saturday is forecast to be the hottest day of the year, so far.

"We're forecasting 95 degrees, previous hottest was 94, with partly cloudy skies and a 20 percent chance for a pop-up storm," she said.

The Saturday hour-by-hour forecast. We'll top around 95 on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday morning, we'll start out in the 70s, a departure from some of the cooler mornings we experienced earlier this week. We could hit the 90s by lunchtime.

"Once you factor in the humidity, it's going to feel like 99 degrees across the Triangle," WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said. "I won't be surprised if we get a few spots to feel like the triple digits."

We'll hit 95 degrees on Saturday before a slight cooling down Sunday.

Because of remnants from Tropical Storm Claudette, Father's Day will feature increasing cloud and rain chances, especially later in the day.

This should limit highs to the upper 80s.

"We are not forecasting a washout on Sunday," said Campbell.

Tropical disturbance could bring rain and storms on Monday

"Eventually we're going to get into more of a wet weather pattern," said WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth.

That comes with the arrival of the tropical system, with rainfall forecast to drop on North Carolina starting as early as Sunday evening.

"The bulk of the rain is likely moving in on Monday," said Wilmoth. There could be strong to severe storms along with the rainfall.

The remnants of a tropical cyclone will likely bring us rain late Sunday and early Monday.

There should be a break in the rain Monday night, but a cold front Tuesday will deliver another round of showers and thunderstorms.

Rainfall totals could reach one and a half inches by Tuesday in the Triangle.

"We'll have very unsettled weather starting late Sunday night," said Wilmoth.
