Fundraiser for local high school leadership group: Although this is not actually a freebie – it’s a great way to support a local group of teens in their quest to have productive and important careers and you can enjoy a delicious dinner while you are at it. Jennifer, the mom of the teen raising funds, posts on the Smart Shopper blog often and asked if I would include this info on the blog this week. Here’s the info from Jennifer: The West Johnston High School HOSA (Health Occupations of America) club, which focuses on leadership, health care career skills, and community outreach has made it to the big time! Each year the students attend a state leadership conference and competition. This year 9 students from West Johnston High School qualified, and were invited to the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, CA. The trip will cost each student about $1000 each in just airfare, hotel accommodations, and conference fees.  WJHS HOSA will be hosting a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, April 30 from 4 pm until 8 pm at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Hwy 42 in Clayton (which is located near the new Johnston Memorial Hospital complex). Plates are $6 each and can be eaten there or provided as take out. There will be a drive through available as well. There will also be a cake walk, snack walk for the kids, 50/50 raffle, basket auction, and other fun activities. (Side comment from Faye - Please, no comments about how not frugal a $6 pasta meal is – this is a fundraiser not a see-how-cheap-we-can-eat event ).
