As rain slows, cold front will usher in 30-degree temperatures

As scattered showers decrease around the Triangle on Monday afternoon, colder temperatures are set to move in.

Central North Carolina could experience spotty rain showers and gusty winds up to 25 mph through the evening commute, although the bulk of the rain moved out of the area around noon, according to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

The next big story is a cold front that will be felt overnight and on Tuesday.

With highs in the mid to upper 60s, Monday will feel warm and summer-like before the cold front moves through, dropping highs into the low 50s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said temperatures will drop steadily Monday evening and overnight, when lows will fall into the low-mid 30s.

Cooler air will be stuck in place until Wednesday, when the next round of rain will arrive -- though it shouldn't be heavy.

After Wednesday's rain, Thursday and Friday will be sunny and warmer, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.

The weekend also looks nice, with highs in the 50s and mostly clear skies.
