RALEIGH, N.C. — Dozens showed up to a free gas giveaway hosted by Mount Zion Church in Raleigh on Saturday. The giveaway kicked off at 8:30 a.m. at the Murphy USA gas station on North New Hope Road.

The first 200 cars got their tanks filled and their windows washed.

Pastor Joseph Frierson said the giveaway was for anyone in need of help.

"When you think about it — what does a car do? It provides life to an entire family, household, friends giving rides to friends," said Frierson. "We've actually heard messages of individuals who said, 'Thank you for this gas today because I can make my next two medical appointments.'"

The church did not say if additional gas giveaways would be held.
