It's time for the Carolina Hurricanes' annual Summer Fun Fest. This big, free event at the RBC Center in Raleigh features all kinds of activities and games for kids, live entertainment and, of course, some hockey.

I'll mention it in my weekend activities post on Thursday, but wanted to give you all a heads up. The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday. Both parking and admission are free.

You'll find more than 10 inflatables and games; sledding on snow; giveaways; guest speakers from the Hurricanes; appearances by Stormy and the Storm Squad; discounted concessions; chances to win a free 12-game plan; and a showing of a classic Hurricanes game.

The Hot N’ Cold Eating Extravaganza will challenge participants to see who can eat a barbecue sandwich and ice cream sandwich the quickest. The winner will take home two 12-game plans for the 2011-12 season. Participation is limited and there is a $10 entry fee with proceeds going to the Kids ‘N Community Foundation. If you think you can do it, click here for the registration form.
