FRANKLINTON, N.C. — Franklinton police are investigating after two churches and a thrift store belonging to one of the churches was vandalized.

WRAL's Rosalia Fodera reports the two churches vandalized were First Baptist Church at 304 S. Main St., and Allen's Metro AME Zion Church at 210 W. Green St. Officials told Fodera between 1-3 a.m. Tuesday someone vandalized the three locations. Several windows were smashed out.

Fodera reports one man who lives above the thrift store told her he woke up around 3 a.m. to hear glass smashing. He went outside and saw the damage along with a piece of wood that may have been used.

Franklinton police chief John Green said the incidents are not being investigated as a hate crime but isn't taking the possibility of it being one off the table.
