FRANKLINTON, N.C. — An employee of Franklinton High School was suspended without pay following a series of child pornography charges, school district officials confirmed Tuesday.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Jeremy Ward Crawford, a testing coordinator at the school, turned himself in on Friday after warrants were issued for his arrest.

Crawford was charged with 10 counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and was released after posting a $75,000 bond. A court search revealed Crawford's offenses date back to May 2017.

According to officials, a search warrant was executed at Crawford's home on March 13. In a statement, the school district said Crawford had been suspended with pay as the investigation unfolded.

"Further employment action against Mr. Crawford may be taken pending an internal investigation," read a statement from the Franklin County School District. "The district was deeply saddened to learn about these allegations. However, the well-being and safety of students and staff is our top priority at all times."

According to the district, Crawford was employed at Franklinton High School since October 2014.
