LOUISBURG, N.C. — Franklin County Schools Superintendent Bert L'Homme has resigned to take a job in Washington, D.C., a district spokesman said Thursday.

L'Homme will become director of education policy and coordinator for the Cradle to Prison Pipeline Crusade with the Children's Defense Fund, district spokesman Nathan Moreschi said.

L'Homme has been superintendent in Franklin County since January 2004. His resignation takes effect at the end of June, Moreschi said.

The district will soon begin the process of looking for a new superintendent, Moreschi said.
