FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. — A Franklin County woman's dream to honor the victims of 9-11 is coming true.

Gerri Curtin boarded a plane to New York Thursday morning. She will donate $2,000 to the 9-11 college fund.

Despite being almost completely blind, Curtin raised the money by crocheting hundreds of American flags. After a WRAL story on the so-called flag lady, Raleigh real estate broker Jack Alphin called to help. He gave Curtin and her helper, Janice McKnight, free plane tickets.

Tour coordinator David Basnight worked out free hotel accommodations, limousine service and a dinner cruise.
