France 2 Shelves Film Set During 2015 Paris Terror Attacks

France 2, the main public broadcasting network in France, has shelved plans to air a fictional film centered on a romance that begins amid the coordinated terrorist attacks across Paris on Nov. 13, 2015, that left 130 dead and more than 500 wounded.

The television movie was to be called “Ce Soir-Là” (“That Night”) and was to feature French actress Sandrine Bonnaire in a lead role. Its main characters were a native of Afghanistan, who has escaped the Taliban, and a single mother he meets the night of the attacks. Their romance begins as they help rescue survivors, according to Deadline.

As details of the movie emerged, an outcry rose from survivors and victims’ families. Claire Peltier, whose partner, David, was killed in the attacks, started a Change.org petition calling for the project to be halted, saying that the film would be “too painful.” The petition has garnered almost 40,000 signatures.

In a statement to Deadline, France 2 said: “The film, which is still being edited, has not been seen by the channel’s management. France 2 has made the decision to postpone this project until the production has widely consulted all victims’ associations.”

The attack was the most deadly in France since World War II. A majority of the fatalities came at the Bataclan concert hall, where the film takes place.
