FAISON, N.C. — Seven people were hospitalized after a tire blew on a passenger van traveling west on Interstate 40 in Sampson County near Faison on Sunday, state troopers said.

Four people were thrown from the vehicle.

A 1992 Chevrolet van was carrying nine people when the driver lost control and went off the road to the right. Two children and two adults were ejected, but none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

"It's a miracle," Trooper H.G. Lewis said.

Two passengers were taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh and five others were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro. Troopers said they were all conscious and alert.
