LILLINGTON, N.C. — Two teens were found safe after worried family, friends and crews searched Raven Rock State Park. They were found a mile off Campbell Creek Trail, having gotten lost trying to find their car in the dark.

A 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old named Ahmad Maurice Jones went out hiking around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday.

Their parents last heard from them at 9:40 p.m., when the teens texted to say they were on their way back to their vehicle – but that their cell phones were dying.

The teens were on the Campbell Creek Loop at the time, which is 4.5 miles long. The trail is often taken to visit Lanier Falls on the Cape Fear River. The water level is low, and debris is present from heavy rains.

The search began shortly before 10 p.m. Teams searched by helicopter, by raft on the river and by foot on all park trails. Friends and family of the teens were participating in the ground search, as well as canine search crews.
