Sanford woman held after Fort Bragg soldier killed in weekend motorcycle crash

A soldier from Fort Bragg died Sunday following a motorcycle crash on Yadkin Road.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A soldier from Fort Bragg died Sunday following an early morning motorcycle crash in Fayetteville, authorities said.

Around 3:15 a.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a crash involving the motorcycle and a sedan on Yadkin Road near Horseshoe Road.

The motorcyclist, identified as Patrick A. McDill, 22, from Fort Bragg, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries, authorities said.

The driver of the sedan, identified as Jasmyne D. Russell-Dicker, 24, of Sanford, was charged with driving while impaired and unsafe movement causing injury to a motorcyclist. Russell-Dicker was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center and released on a $5,000 unsecured bond

Yadkin Road was closed in both directions between Bonanza Drive and Summer Hill Road until 8 a.m. while authorities investigated the crash.

Motorcyclist killed in Fayetteville crash

Authorities said McDill had been assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Abn. Div.

"Spc. McDill dedicated the last three years of his life as an Airborne Infantrymen," said Col. Andrew O. Saslav, 1st Brigade Combat Team Commander. "His tragic loss will be felt by his family, friends and the entire Devil Brigade. He will be missed."

Authorities said McDill joined the Army in June 2015.

He completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Benning, Georgia before transitioning to Fort Bragg, N.C. in Aug. 2016, Fort Bragg authorities said in a written statement.
