Fort Bragg soldier charged with murder in connection to Saturday shooting

Ryan Daniel Walker, 24, of Hope Mills, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Myles David Penix late Saturday night, according to Fayetteville police. Walker and Penix were part of the 82nd Airborne Division, police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police charged a 24-year-old Fort Bragg soldier in connection with a shooting late Saturday night.

Ryan Daniel Walker, of Hope Mills, was arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Myles David Penix, 27. Walker and Penix were part of the 82nd Airborne Division, police said.

According to authorities, Penix was at at a home in the 400 block of Lands End Road with a "known associate" at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday when he was shot once in the chest.

Penix was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he died.
