Fort Bragg paratrooper found dead in New York

An 82nd Airborne paratrooper was found dead early Friday in Johnson City, N.Y., according to Fort Bragg officials.

JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. — An 82nd Airborne paratrooper was found dead early Friday in Johnson City, N.Y., according to Fort Bragg officials.

Sgt. Christopher James Brown, 22, of Johnson City, recently separated from the military under honorable conditions and was in Johnson City on terminal leave. The cause of death is under investigation.

Brown joined the Army in August 2007. He completed One Station Unit Training and Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., before being assigned to Fort Bragg in 2008. He deployed with the 82nd Airborne Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from August 2009 to July 2010.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Expert Infantry Badge and the Parachutist Badge.

Brown is survived by his mother, Debra Harris, of Johnson City, and his father, Willard Keener III.
