FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 20-year-old soldier from Fort Bragg was arrested Friday on charges of first-degree kidnapping and statutory rape involving a 14-year-old girl, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.

Chris Lowe Jr., of Barracks A Co., 1st Battalion of the 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment in the 82nd Airborne Division, is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.

Investigators said Lowe took his victim from her home without her parent’s permission after he learned she had planned to run away. Lowe is accused of driving the girl to a local park, engaging in sexual acts and abandoning her without adult supervision. The victim walked nearly three miles to a convenience store to call for help, authorities said.

Lowe’s next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
