FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Army officials announced Thursday that paratroopers with the 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg will deploy as part of a regular rotation of Iraq this summer.
The Fayetteville Observer reports the 2nd Brigade Combat Team will replace the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, officials said.

Operation Inherent Resolve’s mission is to work with partner forces to defeat the Islamic State group in designated areas of Iraq and Syria, and increase regional stability.

“Our paratroopers are honored to answer our nation’s call to deploy and work alongside the international coalition in support of Operation Inherent Resolve,” said Col. Jason Curl, commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team. “The Falcon Brigade is ready, trained and led by an exceptional group of men and women.”

Soldiers part of the 82nd Airborne Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team returned to Fort Bragg in March, after a nine month deployment to Afghanistan.

Soldiers with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division remain deployed to the Middle East as part of the Immediate Response Force under the U.S. Central Command, after a rapid New Year’s day deployment in response to Iranian attacks on the U.S. embassy in Iraq.

“Their redeployment has been approved, and they will begin their journey home in the next several weeks,” said Maj. Gen. James Mingus, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division in a message to paratroopers and families Thursday.
