RALEIGH, N.C. — A former Wake County sheriff's deputy is facing charges for assaulting a woman whom the sheriff's office says was also a deputy.

David Joshua Chamblee, 36, of Raleigh, was dating the female deputy when the incident occurred, officials said.

Chamblee was released Tuesday from the Wake County Detention Center around 3 p.m. after he posted bond. He declined to comment to WRAL News while walking out, saying only that the truth about the incident would come out.

According to an arrest warrant, Chamblee pushed the woman off a bed in August, causing her to hit her head on a nightstand.

She suffered a deep head wound that required four staples to close, according to the warrant.

According to the sheriff's office, they only learned about the assault when they responded to another domestic violence call at the couple's house a few months ago. At that time, they referred the case to the State Bureau of Investigation.

Chamblee was fired from the sheriff's office last week, but a spokesman said it had nothing to do with the assault case.

The spokesman told WRAL News that Chamblee violated policy for possession of a controlled substance, which has been identified as steroids.
