RALEIGH, N.C. — A former soldier pleaded guilty Monday to child porn charges that could land him in a federal prison for up to 20 years.

A federal grand jury indicted Steven Wray, 26, of Fayetteville, in June on seven counts of receipt of child pornography and one count each of possession of child pornography and transportation of child pornography.

Wray, who was arrested in August in Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Thomas Walker said in a news release Monday.

Investigators found several hundred photos of children engaged in sexual acts on his computer, Walker said.

It's unclear when Wray will be sentenced.

His arrest and conviction are part of a nationwide initiative called "Project Safe Childhood" that is aimed at capturing and prosecuting those who exploit children.
