RALEIGH, N.C. — Police arrested former NBA player Jayson Williams at about 1:45 a.m. Monday after a fight broke out at the Ugly Monkey club, 101 S. Harrington St.

No one was hurt in the fight, officers said.

Williams, 41, was charged with one count of simple assault, and he was released on $1,000 bond at about 4:30 a.m.

He has had several previous run-ins with the law.

In 2002, he was accused in the shooting death of his limo driver. He was reportedly playing with a shotgun when it went off.

He was convicted of trying to cover up the shooting, but a jury deadlocked on a manslaughter charge against him.

In April, New York police officers used a stun gun on Williams after reports that he was suicidal and violent.

During his NBA run, he played for the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets.
