CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A 21-year-old former Camp Lejeune Marine will spend more than 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a child sex charge, U.S. Attorney George Holding announced Thursday.

Shawn Michael Dixon was sentenced Wednesday to 126 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of attempting to entice a child in illegal sexual conduct. He will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Prosecutors said that Dixon met a 12-year-old girl in an online chatroom in December 2009 and had sexually explicit conversations and engaged in live sexual acts with her online. He arranged to meet with her for sex in April 2010, but one of her family members discovered the plan and contacted authorities, prosecutors said.
