RALEIGH, N.C. — The former president and chief executive officer of a defunct behavioral health care company has been charged with failing to pay insurance premiums for her employees, the state Department of Insurance announced Thursday.

Rebecca Horne Wood, 36, of 2338 Dove Court in Rocky Mount, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of failing to pay premiums deducted from employee pay and failing to notify employees of insurance cancellation, Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said.

Investigators said that Horne Wood, who headed Alpha/Omega Health Care in Raleigh, collected insurance premiums from her employees but failed to forward the money to the group health insurance provider from Nov. 30, 2009, to Feb. 28, 2010. The employees’ insurance was subsequently canceled.

Goodwin said Horne Wood was arrested in Nash County and held under a $5,000 unsecured bond. Her first schedule court appearance is Friday.

The company closed in March 2010 and filed for bankruptcy in April 2010, according to the department.
