WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A former Durham police officer keeps getting in trouble with the law.

Charles DeWayne Burroughs, 44, of 107 Anderson Park Drive, was pulled over on southbound Capital Boulevard on Thursday and told a Wake Forest police officer that he was an officer in Durham and even flashed a Durham Police Department badge, according to an arrest warrant.

The warrant charges Burroughs with impersonating a law enforcement officer because he hasn't been one for three weeks.

Burroughs resigned from the Durham Police Department on May 23, officials said, following his arrest on charges of driving while impaired and resisting a public officer in Brunswick County.

Durham police said they are investigating why Burroughs still had his badge after leaving the department. He had been with the department for 21 years.
