CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — A Cumberland County man is facing up to 49 years behind bars in connection with the 2016 death of his wife.

Deputies on Feb. 6, 2016 responded to a home in the 8900 block of Steeplechase Drive after Jesus Mora called 911 to say he needed help.

Deputies who arrived at the home found Mora sitting in a grassy field near a neighbor’s driveway. Mora led deputies into the home, where they found Mary Louise Mora on the floor with visible wounds.

Mary Mora was pronounced dead at the scene but Jesus Mora said he could not account for how his wife was wounded.

The Fayetteville Observer reported that Jesus Mora, a former soldier, suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. He told deputies at the time that he knew something bad had happened to his wife, but he wasn’t sure it was real.

Autopsy results for Mary Mora said she had bite marks throughout her body and her arms and neck were partially detached, the Fayetteville Observer reported.

Jesus on Monday accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 35 to 49 years in prison on charges of second-degree murder and sex offenses related to his wife’s death.
