Ford has officially unveiled its Mustang Mach-E. The highly-anticipated SUV is completely electric and borrows its design aesthetic from the classic Mustang sports car.

It debuted on the night of Nov. 17 at a media preview ahead of the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show and will hit the consumer market in late 2020.

“The Mustang Mach-E wholeheartedly rejects the notion that electric vehicles are only good at reducing gas consumption,” Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s chief product development and purchasing officer, said in a statement. “People want a car that’s thrilling to drive, that looks gorgeous and that can easily adapt to their lifestyle — and the Mustang Mach-E delivers all of this in unmatched style.”

The Mach-E is the first addition to the Mustang lineup in 55 years. It has an estimated 332 horsepower while also boasting an EPA-estimated range of at least 300 miles. Five different Mach-E models, with different mixes of driving range and performance, will ultimately be part of the lineup. Starting prices range from $49,995-$61,600. Ford is taking $500 deposits to reserve a Mach-E for when they become available in 2020.

The Mach-E will also be Ford’s first vehicle with next-generation SYNC, the car manufacturer’s new communications, entertainment and navigation system, which learns drivers’ preferences and improves over time to adapt. Check it out in the YouTube video from the company below — where you can also see the massive 15.5-inch screen for the SYNC:

Base features include 18-inch wheels, phone-as-key technology and LED lights. Other interesting features include the “frunk,” which is a trunk found in the front of the vehicle that’s large enough to hold a carry-on suitcase and push-button door handles (look closely — do you see door handles? We don’t, either).

Standard colors include gray, black, silver and white, while you can upgrade for an extra cost to get the Mach-E in red, blue (which is what we’d call an electric blue) and another shade of white.

Beyond being electric, the Mach-E also is totally vegan, making it a great pick for environmentalists.

“We wanted it to be an animal-free product,” Brittany Moss, a color and materials designer at Ford, told CNET, adding that it was an important feature for the type of customers the company’s hoping to attract.

Although it’s technically a crossover SUV, Ford promises that the Mach-E is “instantly recognizable as a Mustang,” thanks to signature features like a long hood, rear haunch design, aggressive headlights and trademark tri-bar taillamps.
