RALEIGH, N.C. — The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is negotiating to purchase a Raleigh landmark with plans to expand its operations.

A spokeswoman for the food bank said Monday that the nonprofit is under contract to buy the Raleigh Flea Market Mall at 1924 Capital Blvd.

The flea market’s last day of indoor operation was Sunday. The outdoor flea market will continue until July 26.

“The endeavor is part of a comprehensive strategic plan to serve the growing number of food-insecure households and expand our community services,” Jennifer Caslin, marketing and public relations coordinator for the food bank, said in an email to WRAL News.

The sale is expected to be final by late summer, and the food bank plans to move into the property by next year, Caslin said.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
