Food Bank telethon raises $47,000
The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina fell a bit short of its fundraising goal Saturday, but a spokeswoman considered the annual 24-hour telethon a success.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina fell a bit short of its fundraising goal Saturday, but a spokeswoman considered the annual 24-hour telethon a success.
"While we didn't reach the goal, we did raise enough money to provide almost 235,000 meals to families in need," said Jen Newmeyer in a statement.
Donors pledged $47,003 over the course of the round-the-clock event.
