National Nutrition Month

By Sara Clement, RDN, LD

March is National Nutrition Month and this year’s theme is Personalize Your Plate! There is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition and health. We are all unique with different bodies, goals, background, and tastes! Below are four ways to help make healthy choices and Personalize Your Plate.

1. Eat a variety of nutritious foods every day! Include healthful foods from all food groups, hydrate your body, learn how to read Nutrition Facts label, avoid distractions while eating, and take time to enjoy your food.
2. Plan your meals each week! Use a grocery list when shopping, be menu-savvy when dining out, choose healthful recipes to make during the week, enjoy healthy choices eating at work and at school, and plan healthful eating with traveling.
3. Learn skills to create tasty meals! Keep healthful ingredients on hand, practice proper home food safety, share meals together as a family when possible, reduce food waste, and try new flavors and foods.
4. Consult a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)! Ask your doctor for a referral to an RDN, receive personalized nutrition advice to meet your goals, thrive through the transformation power of food and nutrition.
