RALEIGH, N.C. — We'll have to endure another cold night and morning before warmer, spring temperatures arrive for the weekend.
Temperatures were close to freezing Wednesday morning, putting a handful of counties under alert because of the possible impact on the growing season.

Although Wednesday afternoon warmed into the 50s, the colder temperatures will return overnight and could harm crops that have flowers, Gardner said.

Temperatures could reenter the low 30s by 4 a.m., according to Gardner, making for a particularly chilly Thursday morning.

Thursday will follow a pattern much like Wednesday's, with cool temperatures lingering for much of the day. Thursday afternoon could warm into the low 60s, but a coat will be a morning staple, according to Gardner.

We shouldn't see a lot of rain this week, as a high-pressure system near West Virginia is keeping things dry as it funnels cold air in from the northeast.

After Thursday, much warmer temperatures will move in for Friday and the weekend. Friday and Saturday will feature highs in the mid 70s and plenty of sunshine, making for a beautiful start to the weekend.

Rain is expected Sunday afternoon or evening, and temperatures will be cooler, in the 60s, when a low-pressure system moves in
