It’s hard to identify where my journey covering this story begins. When Daniel Green and I met more than a decade ago, I had just a passing understanding of the case. Sure, I knew about the murder of <a href="https://followthetruthpod.com/episode-3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">James Jordan,</a> Michael Jordan‘s dad. But did I even know the names of the guys who were convicted? I don’t think so.

When I did get involved, I learned just enough about the case to intelligently talk about it on television. But I was still just brushing the surface. That is until Daniel and I started communicating – first through letters, then over the phone – and he revealed his truth to me in bits and pieces. As our relationship grew, I became convinced through our conversations that there was more to this case, that there were serious questions about how it was handled from the investigation to the arrests to the trial.

In 2019, when I was assigned by my company to work on <a href="http://www.followthetruthpod.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">this podcast,</a> I did the deep dive necessary to understand the intricacies of this complex case.

Part of that dive involved poring over the <a href="https://www.wral.com/video/wrals-gilbert-baez-remembers-jordan-murder-case-in-vivid-detail/19607389/">extensive archives of the reports our journalists filed</a> throughout the years. I used this to build the foundation for our show. In many ways this true crime podcast is built atop the shoulders of all the reporters who came before me at WRAL News.

<p>The five-part series analyzes and presents new, compelling information on the 1993 murder of James Jordan, father of NBA superstar Michael Jordan. The crime shocked the nation, creating a media frenzy and countless speculations and conspiracy theories.</p>

<p>Through the use of exclusive archival footage and first-person interviews, "Moment of Truth" examines all aspects of the case – from the initial crime, to the arrest, trial and conviction of Larry Demery and Daniel Green, and continuing to the current day appeal by Green, who maintains his innocence nearly three decades later.</p>

<p>"Moment of Truth" also delves into the checkered past of Robeson County, North Carolina, including law enforcement corruption exposed in Operation Tarnished Badge that resulted in the conviction of 22 deputies from the local sheriff’s office in 2002.</p>

<p>The series includes on-camera interviews with Green and his lawyer, Christine Mumma, executive director of the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence.</p>

<p>Green's post-conviction efforts have involved years of appeals and multiple, detailed motions that recently culminated with a North Carolina Superior Court judge denying Green an opportunity to present his evidence of innocence. That decision is currently being appealed.</p>
