Yeah And most importantly a man of God whose life and death made a significant impact on this entire world I've had the privilege over the last couple of months to work with the George Floyd Memorial Foundation to bring this event together and I'm excited that film State University and the city of Fayetteville could come together and have an impact is to play a small part and making sure that Mr Floyd's legacy lives in our community forever again I thank you all for being here and now we'll have a musical selection from Mr Stanley Thompson and then remarks for the chance of this fine State University Uh the 2020 2021 mr and mrs F S U Yeah Mhm Good morning Everyone like Ahmad I am a first generation college student and I'm from Rocky Mount north Carolina I did not come from a family that is well off financially and decided to come to college to bring my family generational will let's be honest if it weren't for scholarships I without a doubt would not be in college right now Nor would I have been given many of the amazing opportunities I have had so far scholarships gave me the opportunity of a lifetime They gave me the opportunity that no one else and my family had the chance to take advantage of because of scholarships I was able to attend an hbcu just as I dreamed I was able to study abroad in Spain I was able to be a part of many different leadership experiences on this campus I was able to have a paid internship every summer scholarships bringing opportunity What would you do with yours Yeah good morning everyone many people have big dreams However many of those big dreams are not free and think how cool would it be to know that you can be anything that you want to be and it can bring you one step closer to being debt free  How do scholarships scholarships are important because they offer something much more than education such as the even easier avenue for students and parents networking opportunities and most importantly the opportunity for students to reach their maximum potential stress free  Because take it from me when you go to college you walk away with something much more than a degree  You gain family and an experience beyond your wildest dreams  So let's get this money while it's free Okay Okay Yeah thank you Now I like to call up Mr Zachary Harris who's the executive director of the George Floor Memorial Foundation and also Miss Bridget Floyd who's the ceo of the George floor Memorial Foundation as well Mhm Mhm Mhm Yeah thank you again and I definitely to thank mr Stanley for that Amazing solo it was impeccable The George Floyd Mori Foundation was founded by Brigitte Floyd and other uh members of the Floyd family in August of 2020 After embarking on a tragic journey to the death of their loved one George Perry Floyd jr May 25 of last year It is almost at one year mark since it's tragic death and we are here to you know ask the question one year what's changed That is the theme for the inaugural remembrance this year Um And one thing that we've made sure that will change is the education for students is community development is scholarship initiatives is ensuring that there is unity and healing in the community We were able to start a internship program at texas A and M University commerce where George Floyd attended the system of texas A and M University uh with the black male mentorship program And we knew the importance since we're based here in Fayetteville uh to start and partner with Federal State University and this is just not a one time called uh type of game we're doing going to continue to give and invest in the students in the community of Fayetteville and it's just an honor that Bridges in the board appointed me to be the executive director We've made so many stripes and um challenged the status quo and just done so many great things We look forward to your continued support we're supporting you We partnered with the community of Fayetteville the surrounding communities and cities in the entire state Bridget big huge car  Um as Yukari stated uh this foundation was started last year of August 2020 Um my brother was born right here in Fayetteville Um this is where he uh started his journey Um Mhm As we approach the one year anniversary of my brother's death I want to thank those here in Fayetteville around the world who have reached out and offered support It really means a lot to us We are focused on preserving his legacy and ensuring the changes we need to see and actually are being made  We are pushing hard for the George Floyd policing bill to be passed which there's no doubt in my mind that it will be passed It might be taking them a little while to make the decision but with with God all things are possible  Am I right My brother sparked a global change and I don't think any of us was ready for this or seen it coming But as we continue this journey as I said earlier we will stand in his name and be his voice because he's no longer here to speak for himself Mhm I want to thank each and every one of you who is here today including my family I don't know if some of you know but we'll be floored is my was my dad's wife and she's been a mother from the day I laid eyes on her I lost my mother and father at a very young age but I'm here I'm still here and I believe I have a purpose  often sometimes as guy why me being that I have been through so much already in my life but he's placed me in this position for a reason  So I'm gonna do the wheel that he has placed upon me I think each and every one the vital work you are doing to keep the legacy and memory of George Floyd alive Today's memorial event helps us make meaning out of pain and tragedy and inspires us to work for greater equity if I'm meteorologist, Amy Wilma in the WRL severe weather center. A look at a couple of things that are tracking some small rain chances tonight and tomorrow and then again on Friday and then a cold front on the way, temperatures will become cooler than normal below normal. As we head into the second half of the weekend, we've had some very warm temperatures the last few days that's going to continue through at least Saturday. Here's a look at the satellite and radar combined. We've had some storms west and southwest of us and some of those might move into our southern counties early tonight. We do not anticipate any severe storms but a stray shower storm possible. The better chance will be over the southern half of the area. Temperatures tonight. Stay mild in the upper fifties and lower sixties. Now, tomorrow, you might want to have the rain gear with you just to be on the safe side. But rain chances are really low. It's only a 20% chance during the midday hours into the early afternoon. And then we'll have a break during the evening commute. And then after sunset tomorrow, we have about a 30% chance of a few passing showers. We do not expect any severe thunderstorms tomorrow. It's just a few passing showers. So about a 30% chance for rain Wednesday. We have a high of 8287 Thursday. It's a mostly sunny day. It'll be a warm summer like day, Thursday and then Friday some more clouds around just a slim chance for a shower. Our high temperatures still warm about 10 degrees above normal with a high of 82 degrees on Friday, the next cold front arrives over the weekend and this is the latest trends from the models showing Saturday a little bit drier. Only a 20% chance for rain. Saturday. We'll still have some scattered showers. Sunday. It will mainly be light rain and the cold front will be south of us. And so it will be a fairly stable air mass. Temperatures will be cooler, so we certainly don't expect any storms but some showers, certainly possible as we wrap up the weekend. So partly sunny, still warm Saturday, only a slim chance for a shower, a better chance for some light rain on Sunday and look at the temperature drop 68 for the high temperatures. So it will be a cooler finish to the weekend and those cooler temperatures will linger into early next week as well. Monday will have mostly cloudy skies with a high of 65. After waking up to temperatures in the upper forties, we drop down into the upper forties again, Monday night at a Tuesday morning and then Tuesday it's partly cloudy with highs near 70.
