RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh was one of the areas most impacted from heavy overnight rain, but most issues were resolved in time for the morning commute.

According to officials at Duke Energy, trees were down on Medlin Drive and Catawba Street, leaving almost 30 customers without power. Officials said the trees were cleared from the road by 6 a.m.

Three right lanes on Interstate 440 westbound near Lake Boone Trail were blocked overnight due to another downed tree. Officials with the DOT said the lanes reopened by 7:15 a.m.

Video shows the northbound lanes of Capital Boulevard were heavily flooded overnight near the Atlantic Avenue exit, but the standing water has since cleared.

WRAL received several reports of water rescues on Capital Boulevard, but officials did not provide any detailed information. A police SUV was parked on Capital Boulevard overnight to block the flooded lanes.

Commuters in Raleigh should be cautious but not concerned, as roads are improving. At one point overnight, all four lanes Atlantic Avenue at Hodges Street were covered in standing water. At 5:30 a.m., the water had receded and was reduced to the sides of the road.

A sidewalk collapsed near Glenwood South at the intersection of Clarke Avenue and Smallwood Drive due to heavy rain.

Standing water was reported on multiple Raleigh roads overnight, but the water is clearing and should not cause major issues for commuters. Even after the flash flood warning expires at 6 a.m., drivers should use caution on their way to work.

According to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner, we should get a break from the rain Monday morning before a chance for scattered storms and showers reappears later in the day. The rain could persist overnight and be heavy at times, possibly affecting the Tuesday morning commute in a similar way.
