Five people, including child, shot in Halifax County, taken to hospital

The Halifax Sheriff's Office was assisting Scotland Neck police after four people were critically shot Tuesday afternoon in Halifax County.

SCOTLAND NECK, N.C. — The Halifax County Sheriff's Office was assisting Scotland Neck police after five people, one of them a 6-year-old, were critically shot Tuesday afternoon in Halifax County.

WRAL's Rosalia Fodera reports the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on 13th Avenue and Greenwood Avenue in Scotland Neck. The four people were taken by EastCare medical helicopter to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. They were in surgery and listed in critical condition Tuesday evening.

Fodera also reports the incident is being investigated as a drive-by shooting. She reports a child and an adult were in a vehicle that was shot at while two other adults were on the steps of one of the homes.

A fifth victim was found on Hwy. 903 just outside Scotland Neck. That victim was treated at Martin County General Hospital in Williamston. His conditon was unknown.

Sky 5 was over the scene Tuesday afternoon and could see at least two homes which were taped off and being investigated. The roads in that area were closed during the investigation but have since reopened.

The suspected vehicle is a white Charger with a spoiler on the back. Scotland Neck police said there were several men in the vehicle. Police said they have developed several leads. If anyone has information, they are asked to call Halifax County Crimestoppers at (252) 583-4444.

Scotland Neck Police was assisted by Halifax County Sheriffs Office, Enfield Police Department, Martin County Sheriff's Office and Williamston Police Department.
