ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police charged four men and a juvenile with shooting and trying to rob a man on Boone Street shortly after midnight Saturday.

Daniel Richardson told police that a burgundy Honda Accord pulled up next to him and a man got out and demanded money. Richardson said he fought the man, but others got out of the car when they saw him winning.

One of the men was carrying a sawed-off shotgun, so Richardson ran away towards Dexter Street. Police said the gunman shot at Richardson, striking him in the elbow.

An officer stopped a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle and arrested its five occupants, police said.

Richardson was treated and released from Nash General Hospital.

Investigators filed charges of attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon against the juvenile and Darius Dewauan Arnold, James Banerd Fields, Kwaidarrius Kiwaiuan Harris and Nelson Shakym Pierce.

The four men were placed in the Nash County Jail, while the juvenile was released to his parents' custody.
