Five charged in fatal Wilson shooting

Wilson police have arrested five people in connection with a fatal shooting last week at a convenience store.

WILSON, N.C. — Wilson police have arrested five people in connection with a fatal shooting Aug. 17 at a convenience store.

Julius Antwan Barnes, 19, of 2019 Fieldcrest Road, Wilson; Herbert Marshall Pender Jr., 34, of 709 Park Ave., Wilson; and William Anthony Brown, 19, of 2205 Forest Edge Drive, Greensboro are charged with one count of murder in the death of Curtis Devoris Wellington, 22. Brown also faces a charge of attempted murder.

Wellington and two other people were shot at the A&J Food Mart early Aug. 17, police said. A juvenile and Cornelius Ruffin Jr., 25, were treated at Wilson Medical Center and released.

Trina Diamond Jameson, 26, of 1562 El Ramey Circle, Wilson, and Shekita Monlee Pender, 33, of Wilson each face accessory after the fact to murder.

The U.S. Marshal's Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested four of the suspects in Richmond, Va., where they were being held without bond Tuesday. Brown was in the Wilson County Jail Tuesday without bond.

The investigation is still ongoing, Wilson police Sgt. Steve Stroud said in a news release Tuesday, and police are asking anyone who was near the scene at the time of the shooting or anyone with any indirect knowledge of the events leading up to, during or afterward to call Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Wilson Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
