RALEIGH, N.C. — A five-vehicle crash on Wednesday closed N.C. Highway 50 (Creedmoor Road) in northern Wake County.

Several people were taken to the hospital after the crash, but no one had life-threatening injuries, according to troopers at the scene.

The crash was reported before 6:45 a.m. near North Falls Drive, south of Falls Lake and north of the Northern Wake Expressway.

Troopers said a 21-year-old driver in a blue Pontiac was driving recklessly, heading northbound on Creedmoor Road, when he hit a white pickup truck head on.

A chain reaction crash followed.

The truck went off the road, clipping a black Nissan, and the Pontiac hit an Acura, which spun out.

A Honda hit the Pontiac, which caught fire.

Amazingly, the driver who caused the crash was able to talk and speak to troopers, who said he admitted to drinking.

Troopers said Creedmoor Road is long and narrow, calling it a dangerous situation in crashes like these.
