RALEIGH, N.C. — A multi-car crash shut a portion of Capital Boulevard down on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened near Trawick Road.

Raleigh police said the driver who caused the five-car crash ran away from the scene. That's when a Good Samaritan helped take the driver in to custody, according to police.

The Good Samaritan, who did not want to be identified, said the driver who caused the crash was going 60 to 70 miles per hour, hit one car and that car hit the others.

The driver then got out of the car, grabbed two bags and ran, according to the Good Samaritan.

The Good Samaritan and another man chased the driver and held him down until police arrived.

Two people involved in the crash were taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries wasn't immediately known.

Southbound Capital Boulevard was shut down to only one lane as police investigated.
