A fisherman died Tuesday when his boat capsized in a pond in Moore County, authorities said.

<b>CARTHAGE, N.C.</b> — A fisherman died Tuesday when his boat capsized in a pond in Moore County, authorities said.

Two men were in the boat when it capsized just after 1 p.m. in the pond at 365 Bibey Road, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office said.

Darriet Deon Patterson told authorities that Darell Marquis Kelly tried to stand up in the boat while they were fishing, causing the boat to sink.

Patterson said he swam to shore but lost sight of Kelly.

Divers recovered the body of Kelly, 26, of Southern Pines, from the pond.
