Late night storms possible as heat persists in Triangle
Thursday will mimic Wednesday, with hot temperatures and a chance for afternoon storms.
Posted — UpdatedFollowing some severe storms Wednesday night, temperatures were slightly cooler Thursday afternoon, with a high temperature of 93 degrees at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Although the radar remained calm Thursday afternoon, WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said the chance for storms will increase late Thursday. The best chance for rain will be between about 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., he said.
Highs will be in the mid-90s on Thursday, and the day will be mostly sunny with some clouds. The greatest chance for rain comes after lunchtime, and any storms that do appear will be isolated, with heavy rain possible at times.
Friday will be more of the same, with high temperatures around 90 and a chance for storms in the evening, but Maze said the threat for severe weather appears limited.
"I can't really find anything that shows a good deal of activity tomorrow afternoon," he said.
Temperatures will remain in the 90s through the weekend with Tuesday bringing the first chance for high temperatures in the 80s.
"That's so many days away. I"m not going to promise that will happen," Maze warned.
