FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion Sunday when he and 17 other firefighters battled a blaze in Fayetteville.

The fire broke out in the attic of a two-story house at 721 Brougham Road, officials said. Three engines, one ladder truck and one rescue truck responded to the scene.

The fire was contained in about 15 minutes, officials said.

The residents escaped unharmed, and the house sustained moderate damage. The family was displaced and was staying with relatives who live in the area, officials said.

The firefighter with heat exhaustion was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was expected to be released Sunday evening. His name was not released.
