RALEIGH, N.C. — Two roommates escaped a large house fire early Thursday morning. Five hours later, a small flame rekindled.

The fire first broke out around 2 a.m. inside a townhome community on Garnet Ridge Way off Edwards Mill Road, just minutes from PNC Arena.

Neighbors said the two young men who live there with their dogs got out safely. The Red Cross is assisting them, as the home was severely damaged in the fire.

"It honestly looked like it was horror movie," a neighbor said. "We are just so thankful that both of the guys and their dogs are out safe. It makes you realize what's important in life."

The landlord agreed, saying the home can be rebuilt and he is grateful his renters are okay.

Around 7 a.m., firefighters returned to the scene, saying a small fire rekindled on the roof.

The homes surrounding the fire were not impacted.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
