CLINTON, N.C. — Firefighters fought a raging fire that consumed a Clinton home Saturday night, sending bright orange flames through the roof and walls and thick, black smoke billowing into the air.

The fire started at 609 Sampson St. around 7:30 p.m., but its cause was not known.

No injuries have been reported, police said.

Adam Dempsey witnessed the fire. He sent a video to WRAL News showing fire crews battling a large, intense orange blaze.

"You can feel the heat from here," someone standing across the street from the fire can be heard saying in the video.

The house had severe damage and is most likely a total loss, said Clinton City Manager John Connet.

He said it wasn't clear if anyone was home when the fire broke out, and no one has come forward to claim ownership of the house.
