RALEIGH, N.C. — A kitchen fire in Raleigh forced a family of four, including two adults and two children, out of their home early Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported at 2:29 a.m. at a home at 5125 Spice Ridge Lane. A total of 33 firefighters responded from both Raleigh and Cary. Officials said the large response was due to the home's location near the boundaries of both Cary and Raleigh, not because the fire was large enough to warrant such a high number of responders.

The flames were showing out the front door and caused significant damage to the kitchen. Some smoke damage spread to the living quarters.

The children were not home when the fire started. A man who lives there said he pre-heated the oven to cook food and when he returned, there were flames coming from the stove.

The Red Cross has been called in to help the displaced family.

The Battalion Chief says the fire's cause is under investigation.
