RALEIGH, N.C. — Garner Road was closed in Raleigh early Wednesday morning as firefighters worked to contain a fire at a recycling plant.

The Raleigh Fire Department responded to Walls Recycling, a scrap metal recycling warehouse and scrap yard at 2310 Garner Road, around 2:15 a.m.

When WRAL News arrived at the scene, there were several firetrucks and smoke was still billowing in the area.

It was not clear how the fire started, but the firefighters appeared to be working mainly in a scrap yard. Water hoses were being stretched toward the yard from a hydrant on Garner Road, and other trucks responded to help provide water.

The fire was extinguished and the road reopened by 6 a.m.
