Fire destroys Wendell home; neighbors rescue family dog

WENDELL, N.C. — No injuries were reported Monday evening when fire destroyed a home on Cortona Way in Wendell, authorities said.
Dozens of fire crews responded to the home shortly before 6 p.m. Monday. Nobody was inside the home when the fire started, but neighbors rescued a puppy before crews arrived.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but fire officials said it did not appear to be suspicious.
