Fire damages Durham apartment building

Firefighters evacuated one floor of a nine-story apartment building, occupied by mostly elderly residents, during a blaze around noon Sunday.

DURHAM, N.C. — Firefighters evacuated one floor of a nine-story apartment building, occupied by mostly elderly residents, during a blaze around noon Sunday.

Crews from Durham fire stations 1 and 2 responded to the fire in Henderson Towers, 807 S. Duke St.

No one was injured, and firefighters quickly brought the fire under control.

There was no word on the fire's cause. Damage was limited to one room on the eighth floor, firefighters said.
