RALEIGH, N.C. — Firefighters said a two-alarm blaze at an apartment complex on Shanda Drive in north Raleigh made 16 units uninhabitable Tuesday afternoon.

Flames and smoke could be seen coming through the roof of one building when the first apparatus arrived shortly before 3 p.m.

No one was injured in the fire, which about 60 firefighters took a half-hour to put out, fire Lt. Tim Wilson said.

Wilson said the fire began accidentally.

Officials called the Red Cross to help displaced residents.
