Fire breaks out in abandoned building in Wendell

Firefighters were on the scene for around two hours Friday battling a fire that broke out at an abandoned building in Wendell.

WENDELL, N.C. — A fire broke out at an abandoned building in Wendell on Friday at around 7 p.m.

Firefighters were at scene for about two hours Friday putting out the fire.

Officials said that the building was once used as a school. The roof of the building was collapsed due to damage from fire. The building has multiple campuses that were all deemed a total loss after the fire.

Crews were at the scene again on Saturday to determine the cause of the fire and watch for hotspots.

Over 100 firefighters from several different counties worked to put out the fire on Friday. No known injuries were reported.
