ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. — Emergency crews closed U.S. Highway 701 between Elizabethtown and Clarkton Monday after fire broke out at a chemical plant.

Fire crews were called to Tiger Products, which is in the 4200 block of U.S. 701, at about 9:30 a.m. It's unclear what caused the fire, but no injuries have been reported.

Fire officials evacuated homes nearby.

Drivers in the area should avoid U.S. 701 and use North Carolina Highway 242 to get around the road closure.
