A 1-year-old child died after being left in a car outside a hospital while the foster mother went into work.

This is a tragic incident and our hearts go out to the family and those who everyone who was affected by this. Pua police underscoring the grief. Many are feeling by the loss of this one year old. It happened Wednesday when police say temperatures outside were in the seventies but topped 100 in the car. Piola. Police say the mother offering foster care for the child distracted and left them in her car as she went to work in a social services job at the hospital. Hours later, she returned to the car and rushed the child into the hospital but it was too late. Do get warmer. So lives are hectic right now with everything and a lot going on in everyone's families and lives and throughout the world. So it's a good time to slow down and just take a double take and be aware of what we have around us and our families. Multicare released a statement reading a tragic incident took place at the good Samaritan campus Wednesday involving an employee and their child. This incident also impacted a number of our other team members. Multicare has offered a number of paths for support for our employees. We extend our condolences to everyone involved.

1-year-old left in hot car dies outside hospital

An annual Memorial Day tradition in Kansas City welcomed a very special guest of honor. Ralph Yarl and his family joined the event to thank the traumatic brain injury community for their support after Yarl was shot in the head last month when he knocked on the wrong door.

Being thrust into a world previously unknown can be challenging for both survivors and their loved ones. Please know you're not alone. And that's exactly why Ralph Yarl and his family were here today to thank this traumatic brain injury community for their support since Ralph was shot in the head last month. So it takes a community, it takes the family, it takes the support group, it takes all of that for Ralph and his family walking that mile and a half today wasn't the hard part. We do 2.5 to 3 miles. So this was a little bit of easy for us compared to her. So it was facing another hurdle being in a social setting with a lot of attention. It's like buddy, you don't have to do anything that you don't want to do. So this is definitely something that I want for you to be sure that you want to do. And he did say I want to do it and this community was ready to welcome him in with open arms including Tyler Moss, a Kansas City police officer also shot in the head in 2020. Very tight knit community, we all struggle with maybe not similar things but kind of at the same time for him and many survivors of traumatic brain injuries. It's this support that keeps them going. Sometimes you go underneath the cracks, you know, when you have a traumatic brain injury and you know, people don't understand that but everyone in this situation here kind of relates to you. I think family.

Teen shot knocking on wrong door thanks community at Memorial Day event

We begin with breaking news out of Davenport, Iowa, at this partially collapsed apartment building. It came down last night, and already the search for survivors has ended. But now there's new outrage and agony from a family who said their loved one is still missing. It all comes as we're finding out that the safety of the building has been an on-going concern. 

The freaking building just collapsed tonight. Family members of Lisa Brooks are desperate for answers after a partial building collapse in Davenport Iowa, I told her I love her and that was all that was the last time I talked to her, Antoine Rabbit Smith sr says they still can't reach his aunt who he says lived in the building. I just wanted some kind of information like tell me something, anything like if you have found her and she's in a morgue somewhere, tell me something. Instead of just sitting here playing the waiting game parts of the historic 84 unit apartment building crashing down Sunday evening fire crews rescuing eight people from the rubble, escorting a dozen others safely out of the building. There was a lot of screams, a lot of cries. A lot of people saying help. I'm hoping and praying that the screams that I heard when the building came down was not people inside of one person trapped for hours. Now in the hospital, as officials worry about what's left. The building is structurally unsound. It is posing a risk to responders and we are actively working for the best course of action. For the building. The mayor says crews spent hours searching the wreckage overnight and have now stopped looking for survivors. Rescue is over and now it's about recovery, recovery. And what are we doing with the building? And as of now, there's no one under there that you know about that. We know about how concerned are you that that may change? There's always a concern. What's next? Lisa Brooks family has called local hospitals and police and insists their loved one is still unaccounted for. She's not anywhere, nowhere to be found. The cause of the collapse is under investigation. But officials acknowledge residents have been filing complaints about the building for years. They say they're still working to contact every resident, any type of complaint is investigated, checked out and inspected and we did that a lot with this one.

We're getting some shocking new video tonight from aboard a Carnival cruise ship that sailed through a violent storm off the South Carolina coast this weekend. It got battered by ferocious winds and waves, leaving passengers anxious and outraged.

Tonight. A swirling storm of outrage in the fallout of a nightmare voyage, panicked passengers seasick, scared and hunkering through hurricane force winds as the hull of the Carnival sunshine took a 12 hour severe storm beating. I have never been so scared. Passengers on board say most of the five day round trip, Bahama journey was a breeze until Friday afternoon as the ship headed back to port in South Carolina passenger Sharon tore says it felt like the captain cruised directly into the eye of a major developing store. There's no way around this one. We went directly into that storm and sailed through it and at seven pm, the sea turned violent. It sounded like the ship split in two. We were flying blind with our lives in someone else's hands. According to weather data, the ship observed 80 mile an hour wind gust and the threat of 17 ft swells. Tron says the worst part, almost no communication from the captain or crew. Nearly a dozen terrifying hours. The ship finally docking in Charleston, Saturday night, some nine hours after it was scheduled. All we wanted was, hey, it's gonna be ok. I know it's rough. And we didn't get any of that carnival saying in a statement, we appreciate the patience and understanding of all of our guests. Carnival Sunshine is now sailing on its next cruise. I think they just wanted to get back to port and get the next people loaded back on dry land. A tempest of anger just starting to churn Steve Patterson NBC News.

Carnival cruise evacuated after violent storm floods ship

The race to get the bi-partisan agreement to raise the debt ceiling across the finish line is in high gear. Both President Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy are trying to secure support within their respective parties.

With a bipartisan deal to avoid a government default reached. The focus is now on securing enough votes to get the bill through Congress. I spoke to mcconnell, I spoke to a whole bunch of people and it feels good. The two year deal suspends the nation's borrowing limit until early 2025 holds non defense spending flat next year with a 1% increase in 2025 while bumping up military spending something President Biden wanted. I think President Biden did about the best he could do in a very difficult situation. Republicans are touting wins including a new congressional budget office estimate projecting the deal would cut spending more than anticipated, but Democrats aren't happy about the deal's expanded work requirements for federal food stamp recipients. I feel like we are being held hostage. We should be in regular order. We should never be in this position again and yet I cannot and will not be a rubber stamp. Some hard line. Republicans also voice concerns. Now they're going to be detractors despite pushback. There's optimism, it's going to get through the house, it's going to get through the Senate, it's going to be signed in a law by the president. The race is on for Congress to secure votes and get the debt ceiling bill to the president's desk before the June 5th default deadline in Washington. Bree Jackson NBC News and the Rules Committee meets today to process the debt ceiling bill and the measure is expected to go to the house for a vote on Wednesday in Washington, Brie Jackson NBC News.

Everyone. I'm meteorologist Peter Sherwood. In the severe weather center, temperatures are going to be in the seventies for today. On average, we're still running about 10 to 15 degrees below normal for this time of the year and we do have a chance of rain. So light showers will be possible for this morning. We're looking at a 20% chance, not everyone will see the rain for the morning commute. But as we head into the lunch hour, we're going to start to see our rain chances pick up. It is expected it to be wet out there as we head into the 34 and five o'clock hours. So keep in mind your evening commute is expected to be wet with some of those showers moving through by tonight that is going to clear out and we are going to see some drier conditions fill to red. We do have a lot of clouds out there more than anything for today. And the hope is as we head into the afternoon, we could also get some breaks in some of those clouds with the rain moving through. Temperatures are going to be warm today in the seventies 74 will be the afternoon high. We do anticipate temperatures to remain in the seventies as we head into this evening. Getting down to 71 by eight P MA big warm up is on the way, our temperatures are going to head back to where they should be for this time of the year. As early as Thursday, we're expecting a high of 80 degrees. Then we should typically see readings in the lower eighties around 83 degrees and warming up to 86 degrees. By the time we head into Saturday, we have this ridge that we will be building in that will help our temperatures on the warm side. But keep in mind, it's also going to be a little sticky out there. The humidity is up and we have a dew point in the mid sixties with in the mid sixties, it is going to feel a little bit uncomfortable. There's no true air mass that will move in, that will make it feel absolutely amazing. Outdoors temperatures are trending below normal for this time of the year once we head into June. So keep that in mind, we're not expecting any days with 90 degrees or higher for several days. We're going to keep those numbers a little bit below normal for this time of the year. And we see that here on our seven day forecast, we are going to climb into the eighties on Thursday getting to 86 degrees by Saturday and then cooling off as we head into Sunday and Monday with highs in the upper seventies.
